Faith & Love: Clergy Spouses Stories

Bethany Herb

by Anne Lee

Bethany Herb grew up in St. Thomas, Ont. She is the youngest of two children. She had what she describes as “pretty normal childhood.”

Her father was a teacher, and her mother ran a home daycare and worked for a catering company. The family attended a Baptish church and Bethany went to a Christian school until high school.

She is married to Rob Montgomery, the priest at St. Luke’s, Gondola Point. They have one daughter, Addie, age 9.

HAPPENING TOMORROW! Hope Amidst Crisis

HAPPENING TOMORROW! Hope Amidst Crisis

With Dr. Ryan Weston, Lead Animator, Public Witness for Social and Ecological Justice, Anglican Church of Canada - Wednesday, March 22, 2023

Canada is experiencing a national housing crisis in cities, rural communities, and Indigenous territories, with increasing rates of homelessness, a lack of affordable housing, and insufficient supports for those most vulnerable to housing insecurity. It is easy to despair in the face of such challenges, but we can also respond with hope! This event will focus on nurturing hope, taking action, and working towards solutions that create tangible differences for our communities. Together we can face this crisis head on, and proceed faithfully to address it and live out the call to love all of our neighbours.

This is an in-person event at Christ Church Cathedral that will also be livestreamed.

Ryan Weston has been the Lead Animator, Public Witness for Social and Ecological Justice at the Anglican Church of Canada for 6 years.

Renewal of Vows and Blessing of Oil

Renewal of Vows and Blessing of Oil

With Holy Eucharist, for Clergy and Lay Ministers - Thursday, March 30, 2023

This service provides an opportunity for ordained and lay ministers to reaffirm their commitment to their appointed ministries, as well as have oil blessed for use in the year to follow. Traditionally held on Maundy Thursday, it is now scheduled for the week before so clergy can be in their parishes during Holy Week.

A lunch will follow. Please RSVP to the lunch here.

Regarding the blessing of oil

Oil of Chrism as well as Oil for Anointing the Sick will be distributed following the service from the table on the Gospel side of the altar. Your oil stocks should be clean. Fresh cotton wool will be supplied; leaving them completely empty is the best policy.

It is understood that some may desire to provide their own oils to be blessed.  Please put these on the table before the service begins with the oils available from the Cathedral.

Archdeacon Cathy Laskey will facilitate the distribution following the service.

For those who may be looking for material for the Reception of Oils to use in your parish following the blessing on March 30, this option from the Church of England's Common Worship, adapted to the oils used, is suggested.
