Major Chris VanBuskirk completes third arctic deployment

Major Chris VanBuskirk completes third arctic deployment

With his parish and his family onboard, the Rev. Canon Major Chris VanBuskirk recently left Moncton for the Canadian Arctic, his third arctic deployment. The previous trips were in 2023 and 2024, with a much longer deployment to Kuwait and Iraq in 2018-19.

“It was pretty short and sweet,” said Chris. “It was classed as an operation, not an exercise.”

Prayers requested

Debbie Edwards, wife of Archbishop David, is still recovering from illness that first began during a trip to Kenya in February. She was there as a diocesan representative of Alongside Hope, formerly PWRDF. She required hospitalization in both Kenya and in Fredericton.

Though she continues to heal, the progress has been slow. Prayers are welcome for both Debbie and David.

Pilgrimage prayers are welcome!

Youth pilgrims to Grand Manan are now preparing for their physical and spiritual journey that will take place on Victoria Day weekend. Kurt Schmidt, director of young adult formation, will lead the pilgrimage.

Prayers are encouraged for all the participants, that they might discover all the riches God has to offer in their lives.

Clergy Spouses Retreat

Clergy Spouses Retreat

Our Belovedness in Jesus

This retreat invites you to deeply encounter the life-transforming truth of your belovedness in Christ. Through scripture, worship, and reflection, we will explore how understanding God’s love shapes how we see Him, ourselves, and others. Together, we’ll engage in meaningful conversations and connection through small group discussions as we discover our position as cherished guests at His table, our identity as His prized possession, the relentless pursuit of His love, and the sustaining power of His provision. Come and be reminded that you were made by love and for love—a love that invites you to lean fully on Him and live in His abundance.

Celtic Spirituality - Why it Matters Now

Celtic Spirituality - Why it Matters Now

with John Philip Newell - Wednesday, May 7, 2025

Christ Church Cathedral is pleased to announce a very special event happening on May 7th! Internationally renowned spiritual teacher John Philip Newell will speak on Celtic wisdom for this moment in time in relation to Earth and the human soul. It promises to be an enlightening event!

This event will outline the main themes of his award-winning book Sacred Earth Sacred Soul: Celtic Wisdom for Reawakening to What Our Souls Know and Healing the World. Newell calls us to be aware of the sacredness of Earth and every human being as key to the way of transformation and healing in our lives and world today.

Join us in-person for the talk, conversation, a book signing, and a few light refreshments ($20 per ticket). People wishing to join from a distance can reserve an online ticket (free of charge). You are invited to make a donation which will help to sponsor seats for people who could not otherwise attend).

John Philip Newell is a Celtic teacher and author of spirituality who calls the modern world to reawaken to the sacredness of Earth and every human being. A ‘wandering teacher,’ he follows the ancient path of many lone teachers before him in the Celtic world, seeking the wellbeing of the world. He has been described as having ‘the heart of a Celtic bard and the mind of a Celtic scholar’, combining in his teachings the poetic and the intellectual, the head as well as the heart, and spiritual awareness as well as political and ecological concern.

Read an article about John, from Celtic Life International, 'The Heart of John Philip Newell'.

This event is presented in partnership with Earth & Soul.

Camp Medley 80th Anniversary Celebration

Camp Medley 80th Anniversary Celebration

When you turn 80 years old, there ought to be a big celebration. That’s what’s planned for Camp Medley, the diocesan camp which opened in 1945 as a place for kids to get out of the cities and back to fresh air and nature. Everyone is invited, especially those with a link to the camp.

The day will include a worship service, live music, memorabilia, food, tours and more. Accommodations will be available for those needing or wanting to stay the night.

If readers have any memorabilia from camp — crafts, photos, t-shirts — they’d like to show off, they’re asked to contact John (director@campmedley.ca). As well, if readers have stories from camp they’d like to share, please send them to this address:  friends@campmedley.ca.
