Farraline Place has new leadership

There is new leadership at Farraline Place, the ACW-affiliated home in downtown Fredericton. In late October, Chelsie Ogden began as the director of care and operations, replacing the long-serving administrator Judy O’Donnell.

Chelsie is from Fredericton Junction, graduated from UNB and worked as a registered nurse for several years.

Personnel update

Kurt Schmidt's role in the diocese is now 'Missioner for Christian Formation.' This reshapes his existing work, with a focus on supporting Christian Formation across the parishes and the wider diocese for all ages. This remains a part-time role.

From Kurt:  As the newly charged Missioner for Christian Formation, I am eager to find new and various ways to support parish and diocesan initiatives in the areas of Christian education & formation, discipleship, and spiritual growth. I look forward to learning how best to support you in your search for, and access to, spirituality and reflection resources of all kinds.

On a specific note, I am pleased to report that planning is already well underway for our third annual Grand Manan Pilgrimage — to be held 15-18 May this year (the May long weekend). If you know of any young adults who might be interested in participating in GMP+2026, please put them in touch with me at kschmidt@diofton.ca .

Thanks, and all blessings.

A World in Crisis

The world is in crisis, but it's a crisis and a worldview that many in the church don't understand, let alone recognize. Here's why: we're caught up in this crisis too. It's the very water we're swimming in.

Famed Canadian sociologist Charles Taylor calls this the Immanent Frame.

The world we live in is a world where faith is not assumed, where transcendence is optional, where the divine doesn't show up, and where religious claims must make sense within everyday experience.

Unless we (and unless our congregations) understand this shift, we risk speaking a language people no longer can hear, making the mission of the church - our embodiment and proclamation of the gospel - near impossible.

And so this year, the Conference's various speakers have been invited to share stories and engage us with practices that will help deepen our loving response to our neighbours in ways they might understand.

Participating presenters from our diocese include Archbishop David Edwards, the Revs Jasmine and Terence Chandra and Canon Shawn C. Branch.
