Seniors’ Retreat more popular than ever

Seniors’ Retreat more popular than ever

Now in its fourth year, the Seniors’ Retreat is well-established and well-loved at Camp Medley.

Last year, for a number of reasons, there were only eight campers. This year, there were 28.

“Last year, each one of us said we have to invite at least two people,” said camp director John Galbraith.

Clergy anniversaries are recognized at 10 and 25 years and subsequent five-year intervals.

Clergy appreciation month

Clergy appreciation month

Did you know October is Clergy Appreciation Month? For all our clergy do for us, let’s be thankful, and convey that gratitude to our leaders.

Of course, you can always express your appreciation at any time of the year!

Mission to Seafarers

The port of Saint John is home to New Brunswick’s only Mission to Seafarers station. This worldwide Anglican mission seeks to care for seafarers as they work so far away from home.

When ships are in port, you can usually find seafarers at the station at 92 Tilley Lane on the city’s west side (next to the Harbour Bridge).

How can you become involved? Those seafarers love home baking, so you can drop off goodies at the station.

As well, each December they run the Santa At Sea program of gift bags for seafarers. Items they suggest: Shampoo, shave cream, toothpaste, tooth brush, dental floss, mouth wash, body wash, deodorant, disposable razors, lip balm, comb, hand lotion, Kleenex, hand sanitizer, gloves, socks, scarf, toque, playing cards, game books, pens, note pad, Canada souvenir (pin/magnet/key chain), candy (individually wrapped), chocolate bars, nuts, chips, gum, Christmas card. Donations should be made by Dec. 15. Cash is always welcome too so they can buy what they need. The Mission to Seafarers is a registered charity.

Do not wrap your gifts as they must pass inspection at the port.

For more information, click here.

Contact Tony Dickinson (506-635-1731) for open hours to drop off items.

Sunday, Nov. 2, 4:30 p.m.  Dinner and a movie at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Petitcodiac. Screening this week is On A Wing And A Prayer, which tells the story of plane passenger Doug White, who is forced to land the plane and save his family when the pilot dies. Based on a true story.

The dinner is pot luck, so bring something to share if you can. Come anyway if you can’t. We will eat and watch the movie, then discuss it. Free-will offering basket will be out, but this is a free event. Contact the Rev. Canon Chris Hayes for more information (506-756-2296).

October 7: Overview of the Synod Website

      Key points:

  • Use Search first when looking for something in particular
  • Find-a-Church includes basic information on every church building - we are not able to organize by parish, but we are happy to put up whatever information you would like to include on your church's page.
  • Best page for parish officers: Resources > Parish Officers > Parish Officer Handbook
  • About in the main menu will also help you find people - staff, clergy, committee members
  • The archbishop's Sunday schedule is found on the calendar at Events > Diocesan Events
  • The Safe Church pages will be reorganized once the Safe Church package revision is complete.

Advent Retreat 2025

Advent Retreat 2025

Friday, December 5, 2025

Join friends from across the diocese and beyond for a 24-hour Advent breakaway. Our Advent Retreat is open to anyone (Anglican or not) looking for a moment to pause and reflect on the season's true meaning.

Gathering at the Villa Madonna Retreat House in Rothesay, NB - our retreat begins at 4PM on Friday and concludes Saturday at 4PM. Our retreat includes times of prayer, meditation, rest, and personal reflection.

We’re delighted to welcome Bishop Stephen Andrews as our retreat leader. A former Principal of Wycliffe College and Bishop of Algoma, Stephen has served in parishes across Canada and taught widely on Scripture, worship, and Christian thought. His ministry was shaped early on through his work alongside John Stott in London, and he continues to teach and write today.

Stephen and his wife, Fawna, have recently retired to the Saint John, NB area. They have two children and two grandchildren. He enjoys birdwatching, travel, and the occasional woodworking project.

All are welcome - pre-registration is required by November 27.

Costs - Overnight: $140 | Couples: $215 | Commuter: $95 (meals included)

Registration deadline is November 27, 2025; spaces are limited. (Some bursary funding is available.)
