The archbishop’s Christmas in the UK. 140th Session of Diocesan Synod. Thank you from Mission to Seafarers, Saint John station

Anglican Diocese of Fredericton
eNews for January 6, 2026
The archbishop’s Christmas in the UK

The archbishop’s Christmas in the UK

I am writing to thank you all for your prayerful support during the last few weeks. I returned from the UK on Sunday evening, having spent over three weeks there with Debbie because of my dad’s health concerns.

On Dec. 8th he was taken to hospital by ambulance with a very low heart rate and very high blood pressure.

Remarkably, this was the first time in his more than 97 years that he had been in hospital, so as he said, he has had a good run!

Thank you from Mission to Seafarers, Saint John station

Thank you for sharing the information about our Santa at Sea program through eNews. It was greatly appreciated.

Our goal was to give gifts to the crews of 10 ships this year, but we were able to exceed that goal and served the crews of 14 ships.

Thank you to all the parishes and individuals who helped make Christmas special for so many seafarers in port this season.

Missional Imagination Conference (2026)

Missional Imagination Conference (2026)

Naming Reality, Disrupting Narratives, Renewing the Church for Mission - Thursday, January 29, 2026

A World in Crisis

The world is in crisis, but it's a crisis and a worldview that many in the church don't understand, let alone recognize. Here's why: we're caught up in this crisis too. It's the very water we're swimming in.

Famed Canadian sociologist Charles Taylor calls this the Immanent Frame.

The world we live in is a world where faith is not assumed, where transcendence is optional, where the divine doesn't show up, and where religious claims must make sense within everyday experience.

Unless we (and unless our congregations) understand this shift, we risk speaking a language people no longer can hear, making the mission of the church - our embodiment and proclamation of the gospel - near impossible.

And so this year, the Conference's various speakers have been invited to share stories and engage us with practices that will help deepen our loving response to our neighbours in ways they might understand.

Participating presenters from our diocese include Archbishop David Edwards, the Revs Jasmine and Terence Chandra and Canon Shawn C. Branch.
