The Bishop of Fredericton seeks to appoint a full-time priest to the shared ministry between parishes in the Sussex area: St. Mark's (Sussex Corner), Waterford and Sussex in the Diocese of Fredericton. The incumbent will have primary responsibility for the churches in the parishes of St. Mark's and Waterford, working with another priest with primary responsibility for Sussex.
These neighbouring parishes are located in south central New Brunswick, in and near the Town of Sussex. The area is in a primarily farming region, situated at the crossroads of the province's three largest cities, and has a population of about 25,000 within a 20-kilometre radius.
St. Mark's and Waterford have shared an incumbent for many years and have recently begun to share with Sussex with a two-priest model. Within St. Mark's and Waterford, there are two church buildings with weekly services, another with a monthly service and a chapel of ease. The combined membership is just under 200 people.
The people are firm in their belief in the Gospel and endeavour to accommodate traditional and contemporary expressions of faith during worship. They also try to keep apprised of and respond to the needs of the communities in which they are placed.
Expressions of interest should include:
Clergy from outside the diocese should confirm that they have their bishop’s permission to explore a possible appointment outside of their own diocese. A confidential reference may also be requested from your diocesan bishop and in addition to other references.
The successful candidate will be required to provide a valid criminal record and vulnerable sector check and may be required to authorize a credit check.
Contact Cheryl Jacobs, bishop's secretary, for more detailed parish profiles or to submit an expression of interest.
