Thinking about Advent? Join the diocesan Advent book study.
This year, we’ll explore Eleanor Sanderson’s Walking with Angels: The Archbishop of York’s Advent Book 2026.
About the book:
Slow down and prepare for Christmas through prayer, Scripture, and reflection. Drawing on the words spoken by angels in the Bible, Walking with Angels invites us to consider how God’s good news meets us in everyday life. Through prayer walking, journalling, and discussion questions, Sanderson encourages us to deepen our love for God, our neighbours, and ourselves as we journey through the four weeks of Advent.
About the author:
The Right Reverend Dr Eleanor Sanderson is the Bishop of Hull in the Church of England’s Diocese of York. She previously served as Assistant Bishop of Wellington in the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia.
About the study:
The online study will be facilitated by Canon Shawn Branch, offering space to reflect on the book, share questions, and prepare together for the coming of Christ.
The series begins on Wednesday, December 2, 2026, and runs for four weekly sessions, ending on December 23, 2026. Sessions begin at 6:30PM (Atlantic) and lasts no longer than 90 minutes.
Registration is required to receive the Zoom link. Participants will receive the reading schedule after registering.
If you aren’t able to obtain a copy of the book, you are still welcome to join us. Each session will begin with a brief teaching summarizing the reading.
Copies can be purchased through your favourite book retailer or Amazon.ca.
For more information, contact Canon Shawn C. Branch.
Parishes and participants will need to purchase their own copies, as the Synod Office does not have a bulk supply.
